Meteorites have been coming to us from outside the atmosphere since the very moment the Earth became a planet from a cloud of stones and dust and acquired this very atmosphere, and left very noticeable traces. Why not aliens? Let’s get acquainted with some of them.

How To Find The Crater? 

The easiest way to find a crater is visual: nature has relatively few ways to create large round or ring structures (from tens of meters to hundreds of kilometers in diameter) with a depression in the center and a rampart around. And if you see something like that, personally or by studying satellite images, then you have a reason to mark the discovered structure as a probable impact, or impact, crater.

The distribution of impact energy creates very specific geological structures in the rocks in the contact area, melts and evaporates minerals, and the meteorites themselves. They often do not survive a warm welcome and are destroyed, leaving the meeting place uncharacteristic for this area and the earth’s crust in general chemical elements.

An additional sign of the meteorite origin of the crater will be the presence of a geomagnetic and/or gravitational anomaly. It was they who helped. Find and identify the 180-kilometer Chicxulub crater on the Yucatan Peninsula, completely hidden from human eyes by erosion, soil, and partly by Atlantic waters and silt. Anomalies were discovered by chance during geophysical research and only then additional geological evidence of the asteroid fall was found.

Is It Useful To Know?

All bodies in the solar system and the Earth is no exception, and are regularly bombarded by meteorites. According to Cornell University (USA), 37-78 thousand tons of meteorites enter the atmosphere every year. Most of this mass is cosmic dust and sand. Many visitors from outer space do not reach the Earth. Other, larger ones, repeatedly caused phenomena on a planetary scale, apparently, leading to the mass extinction of living beings, climate change, and so on. 

At the same time, the international science foundation B612 is engaged in the study of celestial bodies that can collide with the Earth, and ways to minimize the catastrophic consequences of such a collision.  They bluntly stated a year ago about one hundred percent belief that the Earth is waiting for a catastrophic collision with an asteroid. They are not sure exactly when that will happen.

Another reason to look for meteorite craters is economic. The places where large meteorites fall are often marked geologically. Deposits of uranium, iron ore, copper, nickel, tin, and rare earth metals are found there.

So, at the site of the fall of an asteroid or comet with a diameter of about 10 km 1.85 billion years ago (now it is the Canadian province of Ontario), not only a crater called Sudbury was formed. With a diameter of about 250 km but also deposits of nickel and copper ore, which have been exploited since 1889 to the delight of local residents.
